Hercules 009 Superfund Site Update

Update on Hercules 009 Superfund site (Hercules 009 Landfill site is located in Brunswick, Georgia. EPA placed the site on the Superfund program’s National Priorities List (NPL) in 1984 because of contaminated groundwater, sludge and soil resulting from facility operations.):
Both the city of Brunswick and Glynn County passed resolutions that in effect stated that the agreement between Hercules and the EPA didn’t go far enough. The Glynn County delegation to the General Assembly also said they had problems with the plan, as did U.S. Rep. Buddy Carter, R-1.
According to a U.S. District Court filing Tuesday by a Justice Department environmental enforcement trial attorney, “the United States received approximately one hundred comments. The United States hereby notifies the court it is presently reviewing this unusually high volume of comments and, upon completion of the review, will determine its response. read more
