Clean 13: Altamaha Riverkeeper nominates The Lodge on Little St Simons Island

The Georgia Water Coalition’s Clean 13 Report highlights extraordinary efforts on the part of businesses, industries, local governments, non-profit organizations, and individuals to protect the water and natural resources of Georgia. The Clean 13 Celebration event honors the winners as well as serve as a fundraiser to support the work of the Coalition. This year the Altamaha Riverkeeper nominated The Lodge on Little St Simons Island.  The Lodge on Little St. Simons Island has become a model for sustainable tourism on Georgia’s barrier islands. Aside from preserving the 11,000-acre island as wilderness, the Lodge’s replacement of a wooden bulkhead at its island dock with a “living shoreline” has proven the effectiveness of natural measures to protect the state’s sensitive coastline.
